Vaseline Head

vaseline head

This is a few years old now, but my son has always had long, very thick hair and this picture shows not the first but the second time he decided that a whole tub of vaseline was what was missing from his look……this was also after the half a tub of nappy rash cream incident which was just as delightful to get out as this was!

Been there with Vaseline as well as A&D ointment with my toddler. The first time I washed his hair with regular soap 6 times until a friend told me to use Dawn dish soap.. 2 washes later and it was out. I now keep it on hand all the time just incase! 🙂

If this happens to anyone else, as it has also happened to me…

(A few days before the dance recital, thankfully her hair was in a bun for that)
Dawn dishwashing liquid as shampoo… then baby powder before combing it out. It takes a week or so, but at least their hair will be super soft afterwards.

I used dish soap too, when my son decided to cover himself in that original A&D ointment. It was the only thing that would get it off of him, his hair and the crevices of skin folds..(still had chunk rolls).

My daughter did this and I did EVERYTHING I used each TWICE dawn, baby powder, regular shampoo, corn starch, the ONLY thing that got it all out was  BABY OIL. After two washes with the baby oil it was all gone never to been seen again.   MOTHERS OF MESSY KIDS REMEMBER THIS! OIL BASE PRODUCTS like vasaline, shortening, butter, gum, ointments and oil base goo use oil to get it out. Baby Oil, veggie oil, olive oil and mineral oil work great.  Oil and water don’t mix, so it is not going to get it out. Oil also doesn’t dry out either.

I wish I had known that when I did it when I was little. I have really curly frizzy hair and I thought that Vaseline would calm the frizz down… it did, but it also made my hair ridiculously greasy. I used a whole bottle of clarifying shampoo to try to get it out and that did nothing. I had greasy hair for a month.

My daughter did this repeatedly with A&D ointment – Dawn dish soap did the trick everytime!

Yep, my son did this twice – Dawn dish washing liquid did the trick – but we always had to do it multiple times.
