Long Hair Ruined By Hamster

Ruined: A year’s worth of hair growth. My daughter managed to get a Zhu Zhu pet caught up in her long hair. We had to cut it out. Tomorrow she’s getting a bob.

Yep, there is a tiny sticker on the BOTTOM, next to the wheels, which we saw AFTER our daughter got it caught in her hair! I feel your pain.

Oh my gosh. My daughter just got one of these…may have to re-think that.

It says on the package to keep away from hair and to not allow your kids to sleep with them due to the wheels constantly moving. All parents might want to read the packaging.

    Sucks for her, though.

that happened to my six year old and two year old… the six year old only had to get a small, short chunk removed from the side, and you can barely notice it. it ripped the the two year old's hair right out of the scalp in one chunk and she started bleeding. my two year old was standing right in front of me when it happened… it was just so fast. they also tried to run it on each others backs and it left welts! i think the toy is cute but i think a good discussion with your child is needed beforehand!

  • Valerie

If there's anything at all a kid can get caught in her hair, it'll happen….toothbrushes, silverware, gum, rubber bands, REAL pets… 😉

  • S.

When I was a kid, I had long, softly curled hair. I thought I could get the curls tighter (ala Michael Jackson 80's style) by taking my mom's small round brush and twisting it in my hair. Many hours of crying, and pulling later, my dad became frustrated and cut the entire tangled wad, brush and hair, right off. On the left side. Only the left side.

    • mom2my2

Ummmmm, OUCH! You poor thing! Was it before or after school pictures? 😉

    • Julia

oh god. i've done this as well. three times actually haha. apparently i never learned.

  • natalieyandle

This has happened to my 3 yr old daughter more times then I can count! We just had to cut her hair yet.

  • Rebecca

My son got his Zhu Zhu pet type hamster trapped in my hair. Luckily I was able to unwind it, but man was it painful.

just called my kids over to see this picture for a PSA (since we now have 4 Zhu Zhu pets, and I don't think they'd really appreciated my warnings to date about the hair) sorry for your girl, but thanks for the visual aid!

  • JohnS

Always read the warning labels first. That's why they're there.

  • Carrie

I did worse with a Royal Dirt Devil…and I was 23 at the time.

    • JillH

OMG. I did the same thing. It felt like I scalped myself.

  • mom2my2

Yeah, we read the warning labels. And warned her, but it's hard for a just-turned-7 year old to remember not to get her hair too close to a TOY! She did not put it near her head, she bent too close to it on the floor, it caught a strand and up it went in 1 second flat. I saw her grab a pair of scissors and run from the kitchen, fortunately I asked her what she was doing and she had to turn around and show the evidence, otherwise we'd probably be sporting the back-to-school mohawk look, instead of a bob. She was going to cut it out herself. That's my Brenley. She can get herself into a sticky wicket but can usually get herself out unscathed. Not this time.

  • Julia

i did this when i was a kid. but it was with a sesame street school bus that was made to run along a track. it was at my grandparents house. my dad and grandpa were freaking out while my mom and grandma laughed at me. thanks guys!

  • mali1965

I'm clueless. What the hell is this thing, and how does it get stuck in hair?

    • mom2my2

It's a hamster that has wheels and batteries and runs along the floor. If it gets near hair, it winds the hair in the wheels and there ya go! 🙂

      • mali1965

        Ohhhhhhhh…. thanks!

  • Anna

Wow. It's just hair though, it will grow back…besides, kids and parents have different ideas about hair length 🙂
Mine grew out my hair from birth until I was 12. I was not allowed to get anything other than a little trim. And that is when I decided to take matters into my own hands and chop my mid-back length hair into a “stylish bob” with paper scissors. I will never forget my mother's face when she saw. But you know, by high school it pretty much grew back :)))

    • goeswithness

My mother made me keep mine very short. I always wanted it long, but until I was old enough to take care of it myself, no dice.

Our 4 year old got a zhu-zhu for her birthday. We stressed “NO ZHU-ZHU near your hair, or we'll have to cut your hair like your GI Joe wanna-be brother.” We may have overdone the warnings, though, because the 2 year old now screams whenever he sees his sister playing with it, “Hammers eat your hair!”

    • mom2my2

That's hilarious. At least she will never be hairless and will have something to tell her therapist when she is 40.

  • Emilie

Is that LEif Garrett onher shirt?!?!?! Aaaahahahaha!!!

  • neongreen1881

    I hate those stupid toys…lol

  • Chelsea

i am sooo mad i was soo pissted off i hid the pic card

  • mom2my2

Actually, we SAVED THE HAIR. There is a big chunk (1/2 inch) of odd length hair between her bangs and her long hair. When I was doing her older sister's highlights I dyed her little chunk of hamster hair it's just a little lighter brown than her own color, came out kind of cute!!!

  • Jen

Hahaha!!! My daughter got a robot caught in her hair on Christmas immediately after opening it. Ugh! In fairness, I got a roundbrush stuck in my hair (at age 20) so the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Although I was able to untangle hers after only an hour, whereas I had to get in a car with an enormous brush stuck to my head, drive to a salon and endure the snickers as a team of women worked on removing the brush. It took 4 hours, tears and utter humiliation…

    • FeistyLittleThing

I've also done the mortified run for help in the car with a roundbrush tangled in my hair. Getting it removed made me two hours late — to MY DAUGHTER'S BRIDAL SHOWER!!!

  • nerwen_aldarion

Reminds me of the time my sister decided to get one of those round brushes, roll it up in her hair like a roller, and yank it out. We were taking a two hour car trip…we managed to finish untangling her hair as we were pulling into the drive way

Please give me more information. I love it, Thanks again.

Maybe watch you kids better what was it doing in her hair anyways !

    • Anonymous

It wasn’t in her hair.  She bent down too close to it on the floor and it ran over her hair and wound up.  Like I’d let her PUT it in her hair.  We told her not to get too close but a 6 year old does not remember that stuff they are in the heat of play.  Obviously you DON’T have kids!

We received these as a gift last year. After 3 separate incidents with 2 of our girls within just 1 day, they had a date with the trash can. They're forever banned from our house!

I wonder what was she thinking when you took the photo.

My two year old son got his zhu zhu pet while I was 4 months pregnant with our second son. One morning while I was sitting on the floor with my head in the toilet, he decided to let me “hear” the noise his zhu zhu made. Yes, I finished throwing up before I cut the toy out of my hair.

When I was born I had blonde hair pretty short except for 3 little curls on the top of my head my Mom’s pride and joy always had a ribbon tying up the curls well on day when I was about 8 or 9 months old just sitting up good on my own my brother had a wizzer (a spinning top) and wanted to see if it would spin on sissy’s head needless to say it got caught in the curls and Mom had to cut them off.I am told she was so mad she never bought him another wizzer until I was much older.

Omg! The EXACT same thing happened with my daughter and if u look at warning after it says “do not put in hair” lmao

  • Kathleen Wray

I read the DO NOT PUT NEAR HAIR sticker on my daughter’s Zhu zhu pet and had to have a big TALK before my 4-year-old played with hers.
